SARA This Week Oct 10 – Oct 16

Greetings, all!

SARA holds on-air ragchews every day of the week. Details can be found in the “This Week’s SARA Activities” section below.

The Eyeball QSO Party moves indoors at the Stillwater Public Library this week. Details below.

Monthly Meeting – October 9

The WEBEX session recording for this meeting is now available on the Stillwater Amateur Radio Association YouTube channel. The direct link is https://youtu.be/YzqSzIslg1c. The video joins the presentation in progress but only missed the introduction portion of the presentation by KØGW.

2022 SARA Member Dues

Membership in the Stillwater Amateur Radio Association runs from Jan 1 – Dec 31. You may renew or extend your membership at any time.

Annual Dues are $20/year for a regular membership, and $10/year for associate membership. Family memberships begin at $30 for two family members and $10 for each additional family member.

There are 3 ways to pay your dues, in person at a SARA meeting, via postal mail to the club address, or online via PayPal (there is a small surcharge to cover transaction costs). You can begin the membership renewal process here: radioham.org/sara-membership-application-renewal-page/. Please select your renewal option to be directed to the proper form. If you are a current member and have a new callsign, have moved, change an email address or phone number, please “update” option. Once you have completed and submitted the form, you will go to a page with the payment options. If you choose to mail your dues, the club’s mailing address is provided.

Eyeball QSO Party – Returns to the Stillwater Public Library

The Thursday Eyeball QSO Party – Outdoor Sessions for the 2021 season are complete. Having the sessions outdoors worked extremely well. We’ll look to bring them back next year, along with the Radios in the Park sessions. Beginning Oct 14th, we return to the Stillwater Public Library conference room for our Eyeball QSO Parties. The room has been secured for Oct 14, 21, 28; Nov 11, 18 and Dec 9. Reservations can only be made 90 days in advance per Library policy.

“Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald” Special Event Station 2021

The 17th annual “Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald” Special Event is scheduled for Oct 29 – 31. The Trail Center at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park has been reserved for the weekend. The Mariner Motel in Silver Bay is the primary lodging, and there is also the AmericInn in Silver Bay and with more lodging choices up and down Highway 61. And tent camping is available at the State Park for the more hardy. More to come as we get closer to the dates.

We’ll be operating from the usual facility, Split Rock Lighthouse State Park Trail Center, per the following:

  • Friday, Oct. 29 (half day, includes set-up ~noon; operating ~2:00 – 4:30pm)
  • Saturday, Oct. 30 (all day; operating ~10:00am – 5:00pm)
  • Sunday, Oct. 31 (all day, includes operating ~10:00am; take-down ~6:00pm)
(Saturday and Sunday are listed in the Oct. issue of QST and posted on the ARRL website.)
  • Unable to attend and would like to participate using CW and digital modes from your own station – at home or portable? You can join the fun too! A SignUpGenius page has been created. Sign up for a slot or two or three … and operate as Special Event Station WØJH. We are not offering SSB slots as those are reserved for the team at Split Rock.

Technical Topic Thursday Videos

Technical Topic Thursday returns on November 4th. The sessions will be the 1st Thursday of the month via Webex Teleconference as meeting space at the Library is not available on the 1st Thursdays. The topic for November has not been determined as of this writing.

The December 2nd session will feature Dr. Bob Heil K9EID live with a presentation on audio in ham radio.
