May 8th Meeting Program Change

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Frank Howell K4FMH is unable to attend our meeting and share his presentation “Price vs Performance and Satisfaction in HF Transceivers” Saturday morning. We will reschedule with Frank for a meeting this fall.

A call to SARA members for last minute program/presenter ideas resulted in Randy KDØVKB stepping forward and offering to give a presentation on his “efforts to reconstruct a 1905 “wireless telegraph” kit as sold in Scientific American. It was the first transmitter and receiver sold as a paired system.” According to the Henry Ford Museum (thehenryford.org), The Telimco Radio Receiver, Model 1086 is believed to be one of the first complete radio sets offered for sale to the general public. Listed in a 1905 issue of Scientific American, this wireless telegraph outfit was “guaranteed to work up to one mile.” The attached photo is of the Museum’s artifact, which was donated by its inventor–Hugo Gernsback–one of the first publishers of the science fiction genre.

“Morning Coffee” starts at 8:15 AM CDT (13:15 UTC). meeting at 9:00 AM (14:00 UTC) with the presentation first and the business session to follow.
