SARA to Support ADA Walk to Stop Diabetes
SARA will again provide radio support to the American Diabetes Association Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes in Stillwater, Saturday October 4th. The Walk starts and ends at Pioneer Park in Stillwater. We will provide course updates for Walk staff throughout the morning with radio operators posted along the route. The event begins with participant check-in at 8:00 a.m. and is usually completed before 12:00 p.m.
The Step Out Walk is a great way for new hams to learn operating on a controlled net for public service events. This year, I will partner new to public service operators with an experienced operator to learn and practice radio operations at a public service event. We will place radio operators at the start/finish area as Net Control, two rest stops; (#1 On McKusick Road across from Oak Glen Golf Course and #2 at Ramsey Park at Myrtle and Grove Sts) and intersections at Laurel/McKusick and Owens, Neal and Eagle Ridge, and Myrtle/75th and Eagle Ridge. If possible, we’ll have a mobile Rover to patrol the route. We’ll meet at Pioneer Park at 7:45AM for a briefing and deploy from there. Although the walk is scheduled to start at 9:00AM, walkers often depart ahead of the official start, meaning we could have walkers on the course shortly after 8:00AM.
