SARA This Week Oct 2 – Oct 8

Good morning!

SARA Meeting October 8

The October meeting of the Stillwater Amateur Radio Association will feature a program on “Learning Morse Code” by Greg KØGW and Bob WØGAF. The program will feature some do’s and don’ts of how to learn Morse, along with highlights of possible resources you can use to learn or practice CW.  At the end, we will discuss our concepts for a cooperative CW learning group.

The hydrid in-person/online meeting is held in Auditorium A at Boutwells Landing 13575 58th Avenue, Oak Park Heights MN 55082. The ZOOM online meeting link is available on request via email to president at radioham dot org.

Those attending in-person, Boutwells Landing requires facemasks in common areas of the facility. Please bring a mask with you. To facilitate the check-in procedure at the front desk, please do not arrive prior to 9:00 AM.

SARA POTA Challenge ’22

The Challenge has proven to be a great activity for SARA. Hunters and activators alike are enjoying getting on the air and working POTA parks. The Fall season is a great time to visit parks across the region!

Be sure to check POTA spots regularly for activations.

SARA POTA Awards are planned for both activators (most parks, activations, QSOs) and hunters (most QSOs). The prizes and distribution plan are being finalized by the Challenge team and will be reviewed as we get closer to the end of the year.

We have created Legends and Leaders divisions for hunters. Those with 500 Hunter QSOs move into the Legends division. Dave WØOXB and Greg KØGW became Legends in September. Leaders still have a chance to claim top spots in their division. Contacts with all POTA stations count. It doesn’t get any easier for hunter credits as only the activator needs to submit their activation log. Be sure to sign up for an account at parksontheair.com.

Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald Special Event

For the 18th consecutive year, SARA will be Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald with a Special Event Station from Split Rock Lighthouse State Park Nov 4 thru 6, 2022. Make plans to participate in this special commemorative event, SARA’s biggest.

We will offer the opportunity for you to participate as part of the group onsite or from your own home. Dave WØOXB reports a good response from members planning to make the trip to Split Rock. The Mariner Motel in Silver Bay is open and taking reservations!

The club’s callsign WØJH will be used exclusively from Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. WØF has been secured for exclusive use by those working from home stations, for any mode, any band, any time. The SignUpGenius page for managing mode/band/time slots for WØF will be available by Oct 9th.

We have a use of the WØF special event callsign through Nov 12. This presents an opportunity to be “Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald” on the actual November 10 anniversary for a special day as WØF from member locations. The SignUpGenius page will include that date for band/mode timeslots.

Watch for more details to come.
