SARA This Week November 8 – 14

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our in-person activities, including the Eyeball QSO Parties at the Library, monthly meetings at Boutwells Landing and 2nd Saturday breakfasts. In-person activities remain canceled until further notice!

The 16th Annual Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald Special Event wraps up today. Operating times are 7:00 AM CST (1300 UTC) to 5:59 PM CST(2359 UTC). Look for WØJH on SSB and WØF on CW and FT8. Catch WØJH/VE3 on 20 meters around 14.260 USB between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM CST and WØJH/8 on 40 meters around 7.260 LSB between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM CST. And catch WØF/8 on 20 meters FT8 between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM CST.

Rough contact counts from data collected during the “Manhattan Project” session Saturday evening are in excess of 850 contacts. A very big tip of the SARA cap for operating goes to Eliot KEØN for 12+ hours working as WØF running FT8 on Saturday. And he’s picked up the yoke again this morning, starting on 80M. The WØJH variants /VE3 (Brad Harris VE3MXJ in Thunder Bay) and /8 (Rich Barker W8VS in Brighton, MI) have been an added attraction when they have been on the air, drawing pile-ups very quickly. We’ll have a post-event wrap-up Thursday evening via the SARA Webex video conference room. Details listed further below.

The Thursday Technical Topic sessions will resume soon.  We will be doing them on a monthly basis. I am looking to have someone to coordinate these sessions. If you are willing to take on the task, please contact me.

There is no better way to learn a topic than preparing to lead a session. See something of interest or that you have some knowledge and experience, please volunteer to moderate the session. Email me at president at radioham dot org if you are interested in moderating a session. You can also email me with additional topic suggestions.

The SARA Dues year runs January 1 through December 31. Now is the time to renew your membership in the Stillwater Amateur Radio Association. Annual full membership dues are $20/yr. Associate (non-voting) memberships are available for non-licensed folks and those who chose at $10/yr. Family memberships start at $30/yr for 2 licensed amateurs in the family plus $10/yr for each additional family member. We ask that family members reside at the same address.

Dues payments may be sent via mail to: Stillwater Amateur Radio Association, 1618 Pine Street West, Stillwater, MN 55082.

The option for electronic membership application/renewal plus online dues payment via Paypal will be available on our radioham.org website shortly. An SSL security certificate was activated last Sunday. This ensures that our website protects your personal information when completing the application and renewal processes. Financial transaction security is provided directly via Paypal once you enter Paypal’s payment portal. Tests of the forms and payment process have been successful.  Pending some final adjustments, the Paypal payment option will be available by the November SARA monthly meeting.
