SARA This Week Nov 7 – Nov 13

Greetings, all!

SARA holds on-air ragchews every day of the week. Details can be found in the “This Week’s SARA Activities” section below.

The weekly Eyeball QSO Party is at the Stillwater Public Library except the 1st Thursday of the month.

Eyeball QSO Party at the Stillwater Public Library

The Thursday Eyeball QSO Party is held at the Stillwater Public Library conference room. Sessions are booked for Nov 11, 18, Dec 9, Dec 16, Dec 23, Dec 30, Jan 13. Per Library guidelines: “Face masks are recommended. We encourage visitors to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.”

SARA Monthly Meeting Saturday Nov. 13

The monthly meeting of the Stillwater Amateur Radio Association is Saturday Nov 13 in Auditorium A at Boutwells Landing at 9:00 AM. It will be a hybrid in-person/virtual livestream meeting, with the livestream available via SARA Webex meeting room at https://stillwateramateurradioassociation.my.webex.com/meet/w0jh

The program is “Silent Key Remembrance.” We will pause and remember as many of the SK members of the Stillwater Amateur Radio Association from the past 29 years as we can recall. A list of SARA SKs is being compiled and will be published in the coming newsletter. We will take time to highlight the memories we have of many of the Silent Keys.

2022 SARA Member Dues

Membership in the Stillwater Amateur Radio Association runs from Jan 1 – Dec 31. You may renew or extend your membership at any time.

Annual Dues are $20/year for a regular membership, and $10/year for associate membership. Family memberships begin at $30 for two family members and $10 for each additional family member.

There are 3 ways to pay your dues, in person at a SARA meeting, via postal mail to the club address, or online via PayPal (there is a small surcharge to cover transaction costs). You can begin the membership renewal process here: radioham.org/sara-membership-application-renewal-page/. Please select your renewal option to be directed to the proper form. If you are a current member and have a new callsign, have moved, change an email address or phone number, please “update” option. Once you have completed and submitted the form, you will go to a page with the payment options. If you choose to mail your dues, the club’s mailing address is provided.

White Elephant Exchange

SARA’s White Elephant Exchange is coming back for the December 11th monthly meeting. Start looking for that unique “White Elephant” item from your shack now and be prepared for the big event.

The ARRL Foundation offers over 130 scholarships, and it only takes a simple online application to apply.

The ARRL Foundation scholarship application period for the academic year 2022-2023 opens on November 1st and ends on December 31, 2021.

The Foundation issued $550,000 in scholarships for 2021-2022. For the academic year 2022-2023 there has been a significant increase in the number of large dollar scholarships available thanks to a generous contribution from Amateur Radio Digital Communications, Inc. (ARDC).

For the academic year 2022-2023, 130 scholarships will be offered totaling $900,000!  There are twenty $25,000 scholarships, four $15,000, seventeen $10,000 scholarships, nine $5,000 scholarships as well as dozens of $1,000 and $500 scholarships.

The descriptions of the scholarships available are on line. http://www.arrl.org/scholarship-descriptions

It is easy to apply as the scholarship application is on line. http://www.arrl.org/scholarship-application

Since only amateur radio operator students may apply, the chances of being selected for a scholarship are good.

Since 1973, the ARRL Foundation, with the generosity of many donors and the hard work of a long line of dedicated Foundation Directors, has had a positive impact on the lives of many young amateur radio operator students.
