BOARD MEETING MINUTES – OCTOBER 16, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 6:10 PM.

Secretary’s Report – Steve KAØOBI
Minutes from the September 13th General Meeting have been posted on the website.
Minutes from the Board Meeting September 18, 2014 were read and approved.
The Board Meeting minutes will be posted on the website for executive officer access.
Treasurers Report – John N5JLZ
Beginning Balance 9/1/2014 $3,923.74
Income Zero
Expenses $5.00
Ending Balance 9/30/2014 $3,918.74
Deposits have been made of over $400 for 2015 dues that will appear on the October Report.
Shel NØDRX announced that a $200 payment will be made in December for liability insurance.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to pay the fee to reserve Split Rock for 2015.
Activities/Events Report – Dave WØOXB
Split Rock Event – This is the 10th year for the event and 20 people have already signed up. This year there will be a portable station set up to add digital capability. Radio City has offered to support the event so they will be providing power supplies this year. The Handihams are also supporting the event by providing two Kenwood 590 transceivers. Bob’s WØGAF wife has agreed to prepare food for Saturday during the event.
2015 Ice Shack Portable Event – Feb 14-16, 2015. Dave WØOXB has two potential lake sites that he and Bob WØGAF will check out this weekend. The sites are Goose Lake (just north of Scandia) and McKusick Lake (in Stillwater).
November 8th General Meeting presentation will be by Jim WN4GMT about the ham station W6RO aboard the Queen Mary moored at Long Beach, CA.
December 13th General Meeting presentation will be by Dan Fish from Radio City.
January 10th General Meeting will have the SWEEP – Sara White Elephant Exchange and the Annual Election of Officers
Member Assistance Program – Dave will be out of town and not available for any projects in Nov and Dec. He mentioned that his priority for projects is going to be for those members who don’t have a working antenna that really want to get on the air.
Education & Training Report – Bob WØGAF
The General classes have been cancelled for this year due to no one showing up for class. Shel mentioned that he will still conduct the scheduled VE session on Nov 13th at 6PM at Boutwells.
Reports of Special/Ad Hoc Committees
Newsletter Content – Pat WAØTDA mentioned that since the General Meeting will be on Nov 8th, it would help a lot if newsletter articles were submitted no later than Sunday, Oct 26th.
Repeater News – Henry KØHAS said the repeater has been working well. Dave WØOXB suggested that we might want to revisit the idea of using Echo Link. Discussion brought up that if we did that a monthly fee would be charged.
Unfinished Business & General Orders
Joe KCØOIO mentioned that we should start now to solicit people to run for office in preparation for the general election in January. Joe announced he was throwing his hat in the ring to run for President. There was a discussion about potentially using electronic voting in the upcoming election.
Propane heaters were purchased for the pop-up shelters. The expenditure totaled $190.40.
New Business
The usual date for the next Board Meeting would be Nov 13th; however, the library has said the space is not available for that evening. A motion was made, seconded and passed to reschedule the Board Meeting from Nov 13th to Nov 20th.
The Nov 13th Eyeball Session can still be held by grabbing a different room downstairs in the library.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:18 PM.
